Happy New Year - International New Year Celebration Day!

To end 2013 we had an all day New Year Celebration Day! As you can see the theme was INTERNATIONAL and we all had to dress up... some took it very seriously. I found this great top in Pattaya the other night and all I am saying about it is - JUMBO! Presents were given and lots of junk food was eaten.

Merry Christmas from Thailand!

So I went back to the only piece of paradise in Pattaya for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day! We had a great time filled with laughs, yummy meals, and Christmas Eve drinks at a rooftop bar. Treated myself to a lovely massage and body scrub (with Hend) Christmas Morning :) Was a perfect Christmas even though I am so far away from home!

Ho Ho Ho - Christmas Activity Week at Satit Kaset

Christmas in Thailand has been weird. It is strange to be in a place that doesn't celebrate Christmas but to be surrounded by Christmas trees and Christmas spirit. It helped get us in the Christmas spirit - well a little bit!

This week we have had a week of Christmas activities. I've made Christmas cookies with my P3 class, Christmas t-shirts with my P2 classes, and Christmas sandwiches with my P1 class. The week ended with all the students dressing up in Christmas attire and a Christmas movie. It was an interesting and entertaining week at school that is for sure!

Enjoy!

Field trip with all the P1 classes - clay and a temple!

So today I found out where they make all the creepy clay children I keep seeing around Amata Nakorn. I'm sure they don't all come from this place but they make them and people buy them so...

P1 had their field trip today. Their first field trip ever at Satit Kaset and I am pretty proud of them. They were a bit crazy at times but they were just so excited to be going somewhere on the three school buses like big kids. We got there and the people showed an example of an angry bird clay model, so of course there were like 95 clay angry birds and then some creative kids making pots, snow men, hearts, and flowers. I got lucky and sat with one of my P1 students who I knew wasn't going to get the task. We made angry birds together and mine will forever be with his on the clay base. Hopefully he remembers it is mine in three weeks when they get them. He is one of my few students who is very smart but his listening and speaking levels are low. Conversations often go like this -

P1 student - Teacher... Blah blah blah (Thai)
Me - Yes, can you say that in English?
P1 student - Teacher... Blah blah blah (Thai)
Me - I don't know what you want... (Here is when I often guess and just go with it)

One of the Thai teachers witnessed our exchanges today and she came up to me and said - "it is funny because sometimes he knows what you are saying I can tell but sometimes you speak to him and his eyes go woooow and he doesn't understand." We both agree that he is a very smart kid but his just isn't always with it.

After making clay we had lunch, ice cream, and coffee for the adults. Then we got back on the bus but only after the students with money given to them by their parents went crazy in the clay store buying clay sheep, chickens, pots, and so on. I thought we were heading home but we stopped at a temple in Wot Sothon where we jumped off the bus, went in for about 5 minutes, and then hopped back on the bus to go back to school.

All in all it was an interesting day...

Golf anyone?

When you have one of the best golf courses in your back yard and their is a major competition going on it is a given that you must go...

A break down of the costs -

Final day ticket - 16 dollars
A large beer - 3 dollars

This day of golf would have never been this cheap in America. It is a beautiful golf course and we had a really, really, really fun day.

Yeh that happened.
